Rain abandons play on Day 3 in Christchurch

No play was possible on Day 3.

Day Three of the second Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch was abandoned due to rain. No play was possible on Sunday (January 22), leaving New Zealand at 260 for 7, 29 runs behind Bangladesh’s first innings score of 289.
Rain had forced early Stumps on Day 2 with only 71 overs bowled in the day. On Sunday, it raained almost throughout the day, allowing no play. With covers only to protect the square, the rest of the outfield remained wet even after the rains stopped. Umpires went for a final inspection at 4 PM local time, before calling off play.
In order to compensate for the overs lost on the second and the third day, play will start half an hour earlier on Monday.
Brief Scores: Bangladesh 289 (Soumya Sarkar 86, Shakib Al Hasan 59; Tim Southee 5-94, Trent Boult 4-87) lead New Zealand 260/7 (Ross Taylor 77, Tom Latham 68; Shakib Al Hasan 3-32, Kamrul Islam Rabbi 2-48) by 29 runs
